WEDDING INFORMATION

Congratulations on your engagement, and thank you for your interest in Magpies!

Choosing the perfect cake(s) for your wedding is a process which is likely unfamiliar to you.

If you're just beginning your research, you've probably already figured out that you're on a huge learning curve...lots of information out there. We hope this page will help ease you through this endeavor.   

Getting to a Design  
Consultation is an easy 3 step process.

Step 1. Get to know us!  
The best place to start is our website. You'll find lots of information you never knew you needed to know about making your cake decisions. Many of your questions will be answered in our FAQ section. You'll also find a list of flavor choices, hundreds of photographs of wedding and groom's cakes that we've created, links to other vendors and more.

(Not a computer person? That's ok. Just stop by the shop anytime during regular business hours, and we'll give you a wedding packet and you can look at pictures in the shop.)

Step 2.  
If you're unfamiliar with our cakes, you may want to pick up a box of assorted mini cupcakes. We usually have these in the shop, but you may want to call the day before you come and we'll make sure to have a fresh box for you. This will give you a good idea of the quality of our cakes. You can hang out and look at pictures if you'd like (though all of our pictures are on the website as well).  

You can also pick up a wedding worksheet (or print one from the website) to fill out and bring back to your design consultation.

Depending on how busy we are in the shop, someone may be available to answer a few questions for you. If you have a general idea of what you're interested in, we may be able to give you a ballpark price range, but we cannot give you an accurate estimate until we have finalized a design for your cake(s).

 

 

Step 3.  
Schedule your Design Consultation and order a Sample Cake.

Design Consultations are available for wedding and larger cake orders only (75 servings or $300 minimum) and we try to schedule them on Mondays and Tuesdays, though exceptions can be made if this isn't possible for you. Weekends are devoted to wedding cake deliveries and set-ups most of the year, however, we can accommodate some Saturday consults in the slower months (Jan-March).  

There is a $30.00 fee for this meeting. The fee includes a 30 minute consultation and a dozen mini cupcakes. If you order in advance, you may choose 3-4 flavors you would like to try, or just grab a box from the case when you're here. The cupcakes are a great way to get familiar with the general quality of our products. To get a more accurate idea of what your finished wedding cake will be like, you may also order a sample cake in any flavor from the menu. This is a 6" cake, made exactly like the top anniversary tier of a wedding cake. This cake will be finished in our smooth swiss buttercream that normally adorns our wedding cakes. These cakes are $20 for classic flavor, $22 for deluxe and $25 for super deluxe. If you are interested in a fondant, you may request a fondant finish for your sample cake for an additional $10.00.

Order as many sample cakes as you would like and at any time. Take them home, and share them with your family. Each cake will serve 6-8 servings.

At your design consultation, we'll get down to the nitty-gritty with your cake design. If you can, bring in your completed wedding worksheet from the packet, pictures of cakes (from anywhere) you've seen and liked, color swatches, dress photos, anything that will help give us an idea of your personality and the style of your wedding. All of our cakes are one-of-a-kind, and designed just for you. The more information we have, the better we are able to serve you.

Your designer will take all your information and ideas, and sketch out some cakes for you, and more often than not, we will finalize the design at that time.  

Within 48 hours of your consultation, we will provide you with an accurate estimate and sketch, which can be mailed, emailed or faxed to you. If you are happy with the estimate, and want to proceed with Magpies, you may secure your order with a 50% deposit. We will hold the spot and the estimate for 10 days. The courtesy of a response is greatly appreciated, but if we don't hear from you within 10 days, we will assume you have moved on.

**it's a good idea to know who your caterer will be before meeting with us, as there are a few caterers in Knoxville who will not allow their clients to bring in cakes from other bakeries. If you use them, you have to get the cakes from them as well.

PAYMENT POLICY:

A $30 fee is due at the time of the design consultation, includes 30 minute consultation and box of assorted mini cupcakes.

A $300 deposit is due within 10 days of receipt of estimate.

The balance is due two weeks prior to the event.

If you're certain you want to use us, and want to reserve the date before your design consultation, you may do so by sending us a $300.00 non-refundable deposit. This will secure your spot on the calendar, and you may schedule your consultation when you are ready.

We accept VISA, MASTERCARD and AMERICAN EXPRESS, personal checks and cash.
